100!
No, that’s not the age I hope to live to, it’s actually 120—and three months as the joke goes in Yiddish.
The question: “Why three months?”
Answer: “So I shouldn’t die all of a sudden.”
But seriously, I’m pleased to announce that I’ve apparently reached 100 subscribers, so thanks.
I’m not here to earn money or to amass thousands of subscribers—not that there’s anything wrong with that as they said on Seinfeld. But I am on Substack to share what I’ve learned and experienced in the writing world as an author, editor, and teacher of creative writing and literature over many years.
My grandfather was a teacher, ditto my mother, and so is my brother.
Those of you who know the Erickson’s stages know “generativity,” the time in your life when you pass on what you know. It’s a time of quiet joy, or can be.
I felt that working with students on creative writing independent studies at Michigan State; I feel that at master classes and writing conference workshops; I feel that coaching, mentoring, and editing writers of all kinds at writewithoutborders.
Writing here is fun, low-stress, and I’m meeting fascinating writers and readers.
What a cool place to be.
