I recently stopped a paramedic at Walmart (recognized because his shirt said 'paramedic' to ask questions for my current wip.

The hardest part for me is knowing what I don't know, assuming my preconceived notions about a topic are right.

I learned from my first interview with an ME to be totally open-minded to being corrected in anything I thought was right. He was a gem.

Can you really learn how to write? I always thought writers participated in MFA programs as a back door into the publishing industry. Since there is no front door : )

Of course you can. I did as undergrad and a grad student. You can learn techniques, learn from other writers, learn from group discussions, learn from guest readers and much more. That’s not the same thing, however, as saying someone with no talent can become talented.

Thanks Lev! I went the lit route. We looked down on MFA's. We thought we were smarter. Unfortunately, when we got out, there's no back door to anything. Guess we weren't as smart as we thought
