Just about finished the short novel "Point Break" by Don DeLillo. Next up looking like novels "The Warehouse" by Rob Hart and "Big Swiss" by Jen Beagin. But these things flow and shift....

I started reading DeLillo in the mid-70s and wrote him fan mail which he answered. His letters are in Special Archives at MSU along with all the other correspondence I've had with authors over my long career. "Players" is still my favorite novel of his.

I realize seeing what I wrote, his novel is “Point Omega.” Point Break being a movie with Keanu Reeves, etc.

Cool that DeLillo wrote you back. I always liked “Libra” quite a bit. Maybe because I always had an affinity for everyone’s favorite patsy, Lee Harvey Oswald, having seen him shot on live TV as a kid.

Currently reading: The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K Le Guin. Knife by Salman Rushdie. The Secret Lives of Colour by Kassia St. Clair. I've also been reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer aloud, because coworkers told me my voice is annoying, so I'm practicing a lower pitch and volume. Recently finished Carl Jung's Synchronicity (eh), Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses (ah), Firstborn by Lauren Christensen (oh...), and The Rabbit Hutch by Tess Gunty (a new favorite). Playground by Richard Powers is probably next on the list, or maybe Sometimes A Great Notion by Ken Kesey. Will probably pick up more Rushdie books too, I read East, West earlier last year and his voice resonates.

Wonderful variety! When I had my radio show, my favorite interview was with Rushdie.

Like I said, resonant voice. Consider me jealous, in more ways than one.

I first thought it was a scam when his publicist contacted me.

I’m reading and absolutely loving Helen Dewitt’s The Last Samurai and listening to John Warner’s More Than Words (a book about the power of a human writing practice & the problems/implications of AI).

I think I read the samurai book? Speaking of samurai, I read an absolutely beautifully produced new printing of Shogun as a birthday present to myself last year. And wait the time and you was light as a feather.

Almost embarrassed to say what I'm reading: Twelve Yards - the Art and Psychology of the Perfect Penalty Kick (because the World Cup is coming) and The Writer's Portable Mentor. That's it.

Sounds like a great combo. Last month I read a book about golf, just because. :-)

I have no real plans. I've got a couple of new releases by author friends, and I'll see where it goes from there. Probably JD Robb's new In Death release. And "Awake" for book club. I'm rereading Book 2 in the Gideon Oliver series as my bedtime selection.

Sounds like fun. I didn't plan my list, they just sort of showed up on my radar, so to speak. Like "Silent Night" which I decided tor e-read because I saw the movie "Joyeux Noël."
