Writing a sentence or a paragraph while going through the day is one of my chief pleasures, but also a sign that the story idea I've been thinking about is ready to take shape on paper. I don't try to explain this to anyone because of the blank looks I usually got when I tried.
I think non-writers (aka civilians) have ideas about writing they've gleaned from movies and TV shows where writing has to be demonstrated and visual. Musing doesn't make for good drama. :-)
Hello, stumbled across your posts from a "Lit Mag" substack. Enjoying your posts so far. I saw a comment you made about bespoke writing "workshops", perhaps we can connect sometime because I'm working on a project I'd perhaps like a bit of guidance.
It's one of the most enjoyable things: writing when not writing. Not to mention that it gives you an excuse for procrastination! I "not-write" write best in the precious minutes between waking up and getting up.
The brilliance of the writing on Succession is how people want to protect themselves, so their circumlocution, their pauses and hesitations and backtracking are a circus.
